How to know and take care of a Pre - Mattel American Girl Doll?

I think my Samantha doll is pre - mattel. She has different eyelashes, and her vinyl feels different. Her neck is stamped Pleasant Company. Her head is delicate, and sometimes falls out. How can I fix this? How do you take care of pre - mattel dolls? I want to also know, are they worth more. Could you please give some tips on finding a great condition Nellie, for a cheap price. (I have been looking on Ebay.) Thanks!|||Characteristics of PM dolls are as follows:

1. Soft/er eyelashes that match their hair color.

2. Larger and more fully stuffed torsos

3. Larger limbs, feet, and heads

4. Vinyl limbs that are soft and somewhat squishy

5. Some people say the faces of PM dolls have a softer, sweeter expression and that their features are more defined.

6. Many PM dolls do not have body tags.

7. PM dolls are noticeably shorter than Mattel.

If your doll has neck strings just untie them and tighten them so her head won't fall off|||The pre-Mattel dolls are better quality vinyl and their body tag should say Made in West Germany. You may need to remove the plastic tie, and put a new one on to tighten her head. They are worth more to collectors because of the better quality. Keep her out of the sun and in a controlled climate. Just wipe her down with a damp rag.Don't get her body wet.

It is hard to get Nellie cheap because she is retired and they didn't make as many of her as they did Samantha. Watch Craigslist and go to yard sales and thrift stores. Good luck.
