Who and when created the first Barbie doll and how it became so famous?

Usually,when a doll becomes so famous it means that someone else besides the original owner of the doll took over, someone whit big money who i bet payed the creator of the doll.Was the Ken doll made by the same owner of the first Barbie doll?Thank you!|||Here is a little history on the Barbie Doll.

Ken was made by the same person but he was named after the creators son. Sorry but i dont remember the exact date.
